North East Again - 21st Sept ‘23

It feels a bit like Groundhog Day …
Embleton Bay (Northumberland) again - 2nd time this year.
Not looking forward to going - again!
Nearly didn’t go - again!
Happy to be here now I’m here!

And I gotta say this trip was very close to being cancelled. I could have easily bottled out as I was feeling a little washed out from my busy September. So, glad I didn’t though. Last night I was ready to cancel but I felt better this morning and, after I’d given myself a good talking to during my early morning minibus driving gig, I made my mind up to “man up” and head North.

Back from work by 9am. Packed by 10am. Dogs walked and Tesco shopped by 11.15. Joining the M1 at junction 18 at noon.

And what a pooey journey. It should have taken 5 hours, but it took 7! Two big hold ups on the A1 - one at Doncaster, one just north of Scotch Corner! As if to continue the Groundhog Day theme, I stopped at the usual Wetherby Services for a coffee, snack and dog walk.

With 7 hours to fill I listened to lots of radio and Spotify. So happy I can now listen to and enjoy music again - it’s a lot better for my mental health than listening to lots of political podcasts and LBC phone ins. So I can now put Richi, Suella and Kemi in the bin (where they can bloody well stay!) and enjoy some Doo wop, The Killers and Bruce! I also listened to my super talented oldest sons new venture. LOL at Thom’s (Auld) latest podcast on Substack. I can’t recommend his recollections of his 9 months working at Watford Gap highly enough … https://open.substack.com/pub/auldstories/p/it-could-have-been-a-brilliant-career?utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web
It made the 60 mins standing still just out side Darlington a lot more bearable!!

By the time I got to Embleton Bay Caravan Park the sun was down. There were 4 vans there already so I headed for the remaining pitch. This was my 4th time here and I’ve always been on the same pitch - not this time!

I thought of Kim and didn’t even try to back Brunnehilda on. I just whacked on the motor mover as if I didn’t have a care in the world. My manhood was reestablished as I set her up in less than 20 minutes - I was like a machine. I may not be able to back my caravan but my God I can set her up quicker than the most Alpha of Alpha males!

The reason for the speedy set up was that I wanted to get the dogs to the beach before it got pitch black. I parked up at Dunstan Steads and managed a pleasant 30 minute walk along the empty Embleton Bay beach although I did have to walk back on the golf course in the dark.

Back to Brunnehilda to finish the set up and unpack. I heated up some pasta and completed my Groundhog Day with the usual Cadburys chocolate and Tudor porn!

The weather is due to be a bit dodgy tomorrow but to be honest I don’t give a sh*t! Gunna take the opportunity to walk in the rain with the dogs and get plenty of R&R with Brunnehilda. Bring it on!
