Last Day in North Wales - 12th Aug ‘23

After much debate a consensus was agreed about where we go today and when we leave to go home. And believe me to get a consensus with Twinnies needs the skills of a senior UN Negotiator.

The reason for the debate was the weather. We had heavy rain in the night, then the very strong winds kicked in that lasted all day. The drizzle was with us all morning but then in the afternoon we eventually got a bit of blue sky - albeit with that bloody wind.

It came down to a choice between a rail trip up Snowden (and stay the night) or a trip to Barmouth (and not). We eventually went for the latter and set off after breakfast at about 11.30.

It was a lot quieter today (probably the weather!) so we parked easily and close to the centre. We unashamedly went for the full seaside experience - amusements, cheap and cheerful cafe and sweet shop!

It was a wonderful hour or so. All 3 of the boys were in great form bringing their own individual character and humour to make it just about perfect. Or maybe we are just so down market that we found our level at a tacky seaside town?

The visit culminated in “The Grandma Cup”. Kim loved to play the 2p Drop machines / made popular recently by TVs Tipping Point. She was very good at it too. We had £1 of 2ps each - the winner was last man standing. Charlie took the title!

The weather was so much better now so on the way home we decided to take a detour and visit the waterfalls at Nant Col. Another good decision.

We had a pleasant walk up to the falls and a scrabble across the rocks to get close up views. This time I did listen to Kim in my ear and kept the Twinnies under close control. Although probably not as close as she would have!

A snack back at the car park watching a couple of kids having great fun  tubing down the rapids. Made we wish  I’d brought our tube with us rather than the canoe - that we haven’t actually I used. Oh well?

The plan was then to have one final visit to our beach, get back to Brunnehilda by 4 and then on the road by 5.

The beach visit was a disaster. The wind was now gale force and it was picking up the sand and felt like you were being sand blasted. Harry was not happy. Finners and I got a quick paddle and then it was back to the site. The water was warm and the waves wonderful so it would have been fantastic for a swim - ah well, next time.

The boys helped pack up and de-rig so we were hooked up and ready to go within the planned hour.

The journey back was a good one - a repeat of the trip over. The traffic was light and the boys well behaved. It took us 4.5 hours with a short stop at Telford. Charlie managed to find a takeaway burger meal deal for £14! Who would have thought it possible??!

We’ve had a great time. I feel so blessed that the boys wanted to make the trip - especially the 15 year old Charlie - and look forward to whatever comes next summer.

So finally, the site feedback:

Min Y Don:

Pros:
1) Best ever shower block - never shut as well
2) Beautifully clean
3) Great facilities - playground
4) Fully serviced pitch
5) Perfect position
6) Walk to beach and town
7) Close to a wee supermarket

Cons:
1) No 4 or 5G
2) Free WiFi rubbish too
3) They made Brunnehilda go in nose first - although this worked well in the end

Definitely be back!
